Global Recycling Day is Right Around the Corner

March 18th is Global Recycling Day and the theme for 2020 is #RecyclingHeroes! Throughout the year, we at BWS, Inc. do our part to be your local recycling heroes. From our “Cradle to Grave” waste management cycle and sustainable operating practices, to our waste-to-renewable resource processing, everything we do cultivates environmental sustainability.

• We shred and recycle over 50,000 lbs of paper monthly, which saves about 5,100 trees annually.

• We process over 350,000 lbs of medical waste each month, which is 100% diverted from landfills.  Once our medical waste is processed through the autoclaves, which reduces the original volume by at least 50%, it then goes through a waste-to-energy incineration process which recycles the waste into a renewable source powering much of downtown Baltimore businesses and homes.
• We recycle about 30,000 lbs of corrugated medical waste boxes each month, which saves 8,820 gallons of oil annually.
• We are a virtually zero waste facility, where nothing is wasted or goes on to landfills.  All waste that we produce or collect from over 9,000 customers goes through our treatment process or recycled.
• We recycle about 7,000 florescent lamps a week, which diverts approximately 520 pounds of mercury from being released into the environment annually.
