We have teamed up with the Anne Arundel Health Department and local police departments to create a residential sharps disposal program. This program is meant to give the community access to a safe, sanitary place to dispose of their sharps without harming the environment. The BWS, Inc. team was instrumental in finding the right kiosks, designing them, and developing the options for disposal, placement, and pick-up. We're here to make the community safer for everyone with simple and effective sharps disposal.
Items like needles, syringes, and other sharps are often used in home healthcare, which means that they have come into contact with potentially infectious human tissues and materials. These biohazards pose a serious risk to the people who collect your trash and, in some cases, for the community at large. By providing access to safe disposal options for sharps, we can cut down on the risk of biohazards infiltrating our environment and maintain a cleaner, safer community.
If you have sharps that need to be disposed of in your home, then making sure they are handled responsibly is of paramount importance. Before you can drop them into the sharps disposal kiosk, you'll need to place them in either FDA-cleared sharps containers or rigid plastic containers. To find FDA-cleared sharps containers, you can go to pharmacies, medical supply stores, healthcare providers, or online. These little containers will provide a safe and secure way to collect your sharps for disposal. You can also place sharps into a rigid plastic container like a laundry detergent bottle or a bleach bottle for disposal. If you choose this method, you need to label the jug clearly with “sharps” and duct tape the lid onto the container securely before disposing of it. Please note that you cannot use soda bottles, milk jugs, or any other soft plastic container, as they will not be thick enough to keep the sharps from poking through the sides, which defeats the entire purpose of the container.
The guidelines above are for residential use only. If your business is looking for a company to partner with for sharps disposal, then contact us today for more information on our programs and how we can design a safe and effective solution for your facility. Ensuring that sharps waste is properly disposed of is essential for creating a safe, sanitary environment and BWS, Inc. is here to help.
