FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Baltimore, MD, September 25, 2025 – Biomedical Waste Services, Inc. (BWS) marked a significant milestone recently with their "Innovation in Motion" ribbon cutting event, unveiling cutting-edge robotic technology while celebrating 50 years of trusted service to Maryland businesses, communities, and the surrounding mid-Atlantic states.
The intimate gathering of close friends, colleagues, and industry partners at BWS's Baltimore facility featured a live demonstration of the company's new automated systems, which generated considerable excitement among attendees. The technology represents BWS's continued commitment to innovation in medical waste management services. The new robotic equipment, designed for decanting and sterilizing reusable sharps containers, further establishes their position in the waste industry to service the LQG (large quantity generators) hospitals and healthcare systems.
"This event perfectly captures what BWS has always been about – looking forward while honoring our roots," said Trey Krell, Chief Executive Officer. "Our new robotic technology allows us to serve our customers even more efficiently and significantly expands our service capabilities to hospitals and large healthcare systems, while maintaining the safety and reliability standards we've upheld for five decades."
The celebration was elevated by several prestigious recognitions acknowledging BWS's 50-year contribution to Maryland:
Anne Arundel Economic Development Corporation Award: Jill Porter, Business Development Director, and Anita Dewling, Business Development Director, presented Trey and BWS with an award honoring their five decades of business excellence and community partnership.
Maryland Department of Commerce Citation: Carrie Long, Senior Business Development Representative from the Office of Regional Growth and Retention, presented an official citation from the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Commerce recognizing BWS's 50th anniversary and continued service to the state.
Maryland General Assembly Citation: Delegate LaToya Nkongolo of Anne Arundel County Legislative District 31 presented an official citation from The Maryland General Assembly, acknowledging BWS's 50 years of dedicated community service.
Founded by Ray Krell in the early 1970s, BWS began as a small operation serving local doctors' and dental offices throughout local Baltimore communities, eventually growing into one of the Mid-Atlantic region's few privately held medical waste management companies. Today, lead by Ray's son and CEO Trey Krell, BWS serves over 10,000 clients of all sizes including healthcare professionals, dentists, funeral homes, biotech research labs, long-term care providers, hospitals, school systems, pharmacies, veterinary facilities, and government/military installations throughout Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia and Pennsylvania.
The company's comprehensive services include medical waste pickup and disposal, reusable sharps management, document shredding (including mobile shredding), hazardous waste and specialty waste disposal, OSHA compliance training, and customized waste management solutions.
